Professor Jorg Imberger is Director of the Centre for Water Research based at The University of Western Australia. His area of expertise is sustainability and management of water quality stretching from inland lakes to the coast. Professor Imberger has received local, national and international recognition for his work. His awards include the 2009 Premier's Scientist of the Year (WA), Stockholm Water Prize (Sweden), Onassis International Prize (Greece), Order of Australia (Australia), Redfield Life Time Achievement Award (USA), he is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), American Geophysical Union (USA), Australian Academy of Sciences and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences. He has led scientific projects in Australia, US, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Kenya, Mexico and Argentina.
He is currently leading a research program in the Swan-Canning River Basin which involves monitoring the river basin in real time thus enabling us to know what is happening when it happens. The project also involves the development of a public website accessible to the West Australian public through an easy to use web interface thus enabling all of us to participate in the management of the river. A key component of the project involves students from primary school through to high schools.
